Four boys were seriously hurt Thursday when a car hit them in a crosswalk near Pacoima Middle School, police said.

A car was traveling west on Terra Bella Street near Remick Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. when it struck the youngsters, said LAPD Sgt. Stephany Payne. “The boys rode double on two bikes,” Payne said.

Shel Erlich, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District, confirmed the boys were students at Pacoima Middle School.

School officials would not release their names.

Police said two brothers, 11 and 14, were transported by helicopter to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles.

They suffered head and serious leg injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

Two other boys, 13 and 14, were taken by ambulance to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills for treatment of leg injuries.

By noon Thursday, school officials reported two of the youngsters had been treated and released.

The driver of the car, Irma Ramirez, 34, was taken to Pacifica Hospital in Pacoima after complaining of pain and injuries. She was examined and released, Payne said.

Ramirez has not been charged with any crime in connection with the accident, police said.
