Duck update--They lost their fourth consecutive season-opener Saturday in Toronto but have opened with two losses only once, in their first season. Jari Kurri scored the Ducks’ only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs. Ted Drury looks like the next player to take a turn on the first line with Kuri and Teemu Selanne after skating with them in practice Sunday. Kevin Todd played on that line in the first game. Right wing Roman Oksiuta didn’t practice because of a sore left shoulder and might not play tonight. Left wing Garry Valk remains questionable because of a sore left elbow.

Canadien update--Montreal opened the season with a 3-3 tie against Ottawa on Saturday. The new Molson Centre didn’t sell out for the first game--something unheard of in the old Forum, but the new arena’s capacity is 21,273, about 600 more than Saturday night’s crowd. Montreal led the game against the Senators three times before Alexei Yashin scored the tying goal after a puck handling mistake by goalie Jocelyn Thibault. Mark Recchi, who had a disappointing 28 goals last season, scored his first goal of the season two minutes into the game. Saku Koivu, beginning his second NHL season, also played well.
