INS Reporting by Public Employees

* Re “Law Could Alter Role of Police on Immigration,” Sept. 30:

I fully agree with Gov. Pete Wilson. Everyone should be encouraged to report people who are here illegally. As always, the opposition, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for example, is way off base. He states that immigrants (no, it’s illegal immigrants) would be afraid to use public institutions such as hospitals, schools and libraries. These people pay little or no taxes which pay for the above-mentioned services. They should not have access to these services.

Santa Ana Police Chief Paul M. Walters states that his police department turns over “hundreds” of suspected illegal immigrants each month who are suspected of committing crimes in his city. Wow, if these illegal immigrants were removed from our communities, think how fast and cheaply the crime rate would go down.

I truly don’t understand why immigration advocates believe that we as U.S. citizens should pay for these people and their children to live in our country illegally. The money saved by preventing these people from using our resources could be used to help our own citizens live better and safer lives. This country was founded on people immigrating from other countries, no one would deny this. But, they immigrated to our country legally. The bottom line is, become a U.S. citizen and reap the benefits or do it illegally and suffer the consequences of deportation.
