The 1996 Dorothy Richardson Award was recently given to Gomez by the Neighborhood Reinvention Corp. The nonprofit group, chartered by Congress, helps establish community housing groups nationwide. The award includes a $5,000 grant for the La Habra organization.

Gomez has been a member of the board of directors for 10 years and has trained low-income residents to become community leaders.
