OXNARD — An 18-year-old man was in Ventura County Jail on Saturday after he allegedly fired a gun at two people--one an Oxnard police officer, authorities said.
About 6 p.m. Friday, Oxnard officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of Everest Street. They were met by Gerardo Rios, who told them Jose Leno Navarro was inside the house breaking dishes, according to Oxnard Police Det. Timothy Lumas.
As Rios and Officer Christopher Maga stood near the front door, a gunshot was fired in their direction from inside, authorities said.
No one was injured and officers took Navarro into custody without incident. A hunting rifle was recovered from the house, authorities said.
Navarro was booked into Ventura County Jail and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail on a count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to a jail spokeswoman.
