Damon Benning ran for three touchdowns and DeAngelo Evans added two as No. 5 Nebraska rushed for 491 yards Saturday in a 49-0 rout of Baylor.

Nebraska, 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12 Conference, pushed the Bears around all day and gained a season-high 669 yards. Baylor managed only 117 yards.

The Cornhuskers failed to score on their first possession but scored the next four times they had the ball and rolled to a 28-0 halftime lead.

Benning gave Nebraska a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a one-yard run and Evans, a freshman, scored on runs of six and 11 yards in the second quarter before Benning added an 18-yard touchdown run.

“I thought we played quite well, on both sides of the ball,” Coach Tom Osborne said. “I think we’ve got a good football team. I think we’re playing well.”

Baylor Coach Chuck Reedy said Nebraska’s running game was overpowering.

“We had a bunch of guys up there to stop the run,” he said. “You could count about nine or 10 of them at the line. The thing about Nebraska is, it doesn’t matter. I mean, you can put 11 guys up there and they’re still going to run.”

The Bears (3-2, 0-2) had 28 yards in the first half, only three passing. They were without a first down until late in the second quarter.

Baylor played without quarterback Jeff Watson, who sat out the game because of back spasms. Backup Jermaine Alford completed 10 of 25 passes for 85 yards. The Bears had 32 yards rushing.

Nebraska’s Scott Frost, who had four passes dropped, was eight for 15 for 178 yards.
