Teen Crashes Stolen Truck Into Landfill
A 16-year-old youth driving a stolen pickup truck crashed through the gate of the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center and plunged the vehicle into a deep canyon while attempting to flee police early Sunday morning.
The Simi Valley resident, who was not identified because of his age, was spotted by police near Madera Road and the Ronald Reagan Freeway about 3:50 a.m. driving a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 pickup that had been reported stolen a few blocks away.
After a brief chase, the youth ran the truck through the landfill’s gates at 2801 Madera Road, off a cliff and into the canyon before hiding under brush. Police quickly flushed out the suspect using spotlights and a County Fire Department helicopter, and he was taken to Simi Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
The youth was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle.
