More than 90 tires were slashed on parked cars and a child’s bicycle in east Newhall early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 8:30 a.m. by a resident reporting several cars with flat tires, according to sheriff’s Deputy Tom Gibson. They discovered that tires were slashed on 31 cars and a bicycle throughout a six-block area.
“They were punctured on the sidewall with something like an ice pick or some sort of sharp object,” Gibson said. “There was no other damage to the vehicles, none whatsoever.”
The vandalism probably took place between midnight and 4 a.m., he said.
Gibson said he was uncertain whether Sunday’s vandalism was related to a similar incident a couple of weeks ago in the Santa Clarita area, when 18 tires on a dozen cars parked at a local hospital were punctured.
“Someone maybe got angry at one of the doctors or staff,” he said. No arrests have been made in either incident. “Whether it’s the same tool or the same person, we don’t know at this point.”
