Woman With Knife Killed by Police
An Oceanside woman who led police on a car chase after an alleged hit-and-run was fatally shot by an officer after threatening him with a knife, San Diego police said.
Witnesses at Balboa Park had directed police officers to a car that was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident Saturday night.
Police said Lisa Lynn Caporitti, 31, then led them on a brief car chase before pulling over on Pan American Plaza. According to a statement by police, Caporitti threatened another driver and would not get out of her car as ordered.
She left her car only after the officer sprayed her with Mace. The statement said Caporitti advanced toward the officer, brandishing the knife.
The officer fired several shots. Caporitti died at the scene.
