Truck Collision Kills Man on Freeway

VALENCIA — One man was killed early Tuesday when a large truck collided with another truck on the Golden State Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when the tractor-semitrailer traveling north struck the other vehicle, which had parked beside the freeway at the McBean Parkway offramp, CHP spokeswoman Wendy Moore said.
The lone fatality was believed to be the smaller truck’s driver, who apparently was standing next to the vehicle when the larger vehicle swerved and struck him, Moore said.
The dead man was described as a white man in his late 20s. There were no other injuries, the CHP said. After the collision, the driver of the big rig swerved back across traffic lanes and struck the center divider.
Northbound lanes were closed to traffic for more than four hours while the CHP investigated the accident and Caltrans crews cleaned up about 100 gallons of spilled diesel fuel.
