The Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross recently honored several volunteers for their service to the disaster-relief organization.

Eight volunteers and organizations were given the Golden Circle Award, the Red Cross’ most prestigious honor, at the chapter’s 1996 recognition luncheon and awards ceremony.

The honorees include: Tom Broadston of La Habra, Rick Eidson of Orange, Henry and Edythe Handy of Laguna Beach, C. McLaughlin of Costa Mesa, Cathy Richison of Hemet, Kevin Verdi of Tustin and Sedgwick James of Irvine.

Twenty-one other Red Cross volunteers were recognized for their long service to the organization, including Alice Coppess of Garden Grove, who has volunteered for the past 60 years. Gladys Fried of Santa Ana and Leola Law of Tustin were honored for their 55 years of volunteer service.

Robert McClain of Huntington Beach was presented the chapter’s Clara Barton Award for his work in balancing the annual budget and keeping expenses at a minimum, officials said.

The awards luncheon was last week at the Hyatt Regency Alicante in Garden Grove.
