Duck update--Faceoff will be delayed until about 8 because of the customary Disney festivities for the home opener. The Ducks finished last season with a nine-game unbeaten streak at the Pond, and haven’t lost there since March 5. Goalie Guy Hebert will start, despite having yielded more than five goals a game during the season-opening trip. Teemu Selanne is carrying the team offensively with 10 points in five games, and former Kings Jari Kurri and Kevin Todd each have six. Enforcer Barry Nieckar was called up Tuesday from the Long Beach Ice Dogs because Ken Baumgartner is recovering from a separated shoulder.
Flyer update--Philadelphia is coming off 3-2 loss to the Kings Tuesday night at the Forum. Eric Lindros is out with a groin injury but may be back when the teams play again at Philadelphia’s CoreStates Center next Tuesday. The Ducks were 0-1-1 against the Flyers last season, losing, 4-2, at the Pond in October and tying the Flyers, 2-2, in January, after having arrived only hours before the game because of travel delays caused by an East Coast blizzard.
