Man Arrested After 3-City Car Chase
A 23-year-old Ventura man was arrested early Wednesday after leading sheriff’s deputies, Ventura police officers and California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through three cities.
Ventura police officers tried to pull Paul Gonzales over on Ventura Avenue about 2:50 a.m. after seeing that he was driving without his seat belt fastened, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Gonzales sped away, running a red light and heading down Ventura Avenue, authorities said, adding that the officers, with help from sheriff’s deputies and members of the CHP, continued the pursuit, which reached speeds of 95 mph.
The chase went through Ventura, Oxnard and Camarillo, ending when Gonzales’ car blew out its engine on the Conejo Grade, the spokesman said.
Gonzales was booked into the Ventura County Jail for failure to stop for officers, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and violation of probation, a jail spokeswoman said. His bail was set at $10,000.
