NBC Launches Channels in India: General Electric Co.’s NBC television network began beaming business and entertainment programs over two separate channels in India on Thursday. CNBC, the global business news channel, and NBC Asia, the entertainment channel tailored to Asia, will be beamed over News Corp.’s Star Television multichannel network through the AsiaSat-2 satellite. NBC Asia signed an agreement with Star Television’s largest Indian cable distributor, IN Cable, for distributing its programs through their cable network in Bombay and other Indian cities. “Through IN Cable we can reach 2 million homes across India,” said Stuart U. Goldfarb, managing director in charge of international operations and business development. “We are also talking to other cable distributors in India.” India, whose population of more than 900 million makes it the world’s second-largest country, has been the missing link in NBC’s coverage in Asia.
