Robbery charges have been dropped against Dwan London and Carl McRae, two Chapman University football players, Orange Police Lt. Ed Tunstall said Thursday.

London and McRae had been arrested on suspicion of taking approximately $75 from Steve Bisel, a Chapman student, on Oct. 7 on university grounds.

Bisel told police Thursday that it was not a theft of money, but that London and McRae allegedly had stolen an undetermined amount of marijuana, according to Tunstall.

McRae, a junior linebacker, was still in custody Thursday night but was expected to be released. London, a junior running back, was already out on bail.

Chapman football Coach Ken Visser said the two will remain suspended from the team until a campus investigation is completed. At that time, he will review their status.

“If there was concrete evidence that drugs were involved, they will be suspended for the season,” Visser said.

Tunstall said Bisel might be charged with filing a false police report.
