Ventura 22, Buena 11--The Cougars (4-2, 2-1) capitalized on three Buena turnovers in the fourth quarter to come from behind in a game in which neither team gained 200 yards of offense.

With Ventura down 11-8 in the fourth quarter, the Cougars’ Moises Ramirez recovered a Brady Phelps fumble at the Bulldog seven. Two plays later, Jeramie Jackson scored from five yards to put Ventura ahead to stay, 15-11. Jackson gained 142 yards in 25 carries with one touchdown.

Alex Mack intercepted a pass by Buena’s Jeff Taladay at the Bulldog 18 with 3:21 remaining. Quarterback Mike Anderson scored from seven yards on a keeper, making it 22-11.

Ventura’s third takeaway came on Ramirez’s interception with 2:05 to play and the Cougars ran out the clock.

Ventura gained 190 yards and Buena 177. Buena (2-4, 1-2) had been averaging 350 yards. Phelps was held to 75 yards in 25 carries.
