Herniated Disk Sidelines Potomski

Share

Left wing Barry Potomski learned Friday that his back problem is a herniated disk. He won’t be making the trip with the Kings to Chicago on Sunday and Detroit on Monday.

The full extent of his injury won’t be known until Potomski meets with back specialist Robert Watkins on Monday. Potomski injured his back last week in Washington but scored his second goal of the season on Thursday against Boston and did not appear to be in pain afterward.

Meanwhile, defenseman Steven Finn and forward Craig Johnson were taken off injured reserve and have been cleared to play. Left wing Kevin Stevens, who had a concussion in combination with a strained neck, did not skate and a decision will be made on his status after practice today. Defenseman Doug Zmolek, who suffered a mild concussion on Thursday, is expected to play Sunday.

Coach Larry Robinson, though pleased with Thursday’s victory over the Bruins, was not happy with much else. He gave the players their harshest scolding of the season after a lackluster second period.

“I couldn’t pick out anything we did well [in the second] and that doesn’t bode well for us with two tough road games coming up,” he said.

“You can’t expect your goalie to stand on his head and make 40, 50 saves a game.”
