Young scored the game’s first goal 1:53 into the second period with a 35-foot slap shot that broke McLean’s stick. Sylvain Lefebvre beat McLean from just inside the blue line at 10:25. Aaron Miller and Sakic scored 1:01 apart and Roy made two saves on deflections as Colorado took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Colorado made it 5-0 with a two-on-one break by Mike Keane at 7:05 of the third period. Alexei Gusarov, Sakic and Kamensky scored 2:01 minutes apart and Young scored his second of the night and fifth of the season at 12:23 to complete Colorado’s scoring.

Dallas 2, Toronto 0--Dave Reid and Greg Adams supplied the offense and Andy Moog made 14 saves at Dallas to record his 23rd career shutout and help the Stars improve to 7-1-0.

The victory was the 331st of Moog’s career, tops among active goaltenders.

The Stars opened the season with a franchise-record six victories before losing to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Toronto (1-5-0) has scored only 12 goals.

Reid got the game’s first goal at 6:17 of the second period, taking Jamie Langenbrunner’s pass and lifting a shot over Felix Potvin and into the top of the net. Adams scored his fifth goal of the season with a wrist shot that got between Potvin’s pads.

Ottawa 6, Montreal 3--Alexandre Daigle’s spectacular breakaway goal at 5:01 of the third period capped a three-goal Ottawa comeback as the Senators defeated the Canadiens at Kanata, Canada.

Pittsburgh 2, Washington 1--Ron Francis scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period at Pittsburgh to lead the Penguins to their second victory of the season.

The Capitals (1-5-0) have lost three consecutive games.
