Chester Place

* Re your article on the proposed new library and learning center at Mount St. Mary’s College, Oct. 9: Although you correctly noted that Chester Place is a private road and on private property, it is not now, and has not been for many years, a thoroughfare for vehicular traffic. Thus, the project does not affect existing neighborhood traffic. The same fence and gate that exit on 23rd Street will be retained for pedestrian access to the campus.

The college has worked diligently for more than two years to establish a plan that is compatible with the special nature of the campus. All of the objections raised in this lawsuit were raised by the plaintiffs and their representatives at every stage of the approval process and were fully considered during the extensive environmental review process. Each of the objections was considered and taken into account by city officials in reaching the decision to proceed with the project.
