City May Buy Building on Boulevard Targeted for Redevelopment

Share

As part of an ongoing effort to clean up Garden Grove Boulevard, the City Council tonight will consider spending $215,000 to purchase the former Dollar Rent A Car agency building, now vacant.

The property at 10352 Garden Grove Blvd. is part of a larger redevelopment area between Bowen and Flower streets on Garden Grove Boulevard.

That strip of Garden Grove Boulevard was targeted for redevelopment because of its large number of deteriorating and abandoned buildings on properties not considered feasible for commercial development.

City officials said they are also in negotiation to buy an additional parcel adjacent to the former rental-car facility, and future plans call for residential development on the entire site.

Earlier this year, the city purchased the former Fair Inn property on Garden Grove Boulevard near Harbor Boulevard for $2.4 million and plans to demolish the motel before the end of the year, said Matt Fertal, community development director.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
