Fund-Raiser Planned for Senior Center
U.S. District Judge Ronald S. W. Lew will be the keynote speaker at a fund-raising dinner Saturday for the Evergreen Senior Center at the Universal City Hilton & Towers.
The group, which meets each Thursday at the Chinese Christian Alliance Church in Northridge, provides physical and social activities for its roughly 40 elderly members, none of whom drive. The goal of the dinner is to raise $25,000 to provide transportation for the members to and from the center.
Raising enough money to get the van for transportation would be a big relief for Nancy Cheung, the center’s program coordinator, who spends many hours each week simply trying to coordinate rides for members.
Right now, Cheung and volunteers who help with the program end up giving rides to most of the members, all of whom are first-generation Chinese.
The fund-raiser will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction. Dinner will follow at 6.
