A Magical Mystery Tour

Share

“It’s far more profound to look at the dark side of life, the mysterious, the beautiful and the unknown, than the hard-core, gory-murder aspect,” says Christine Dzilvelis. That’s why the emphasis of the first Enchanted All Hallow’s Eve Revel on Friday and Saturday, which Dzilvelis helped organize, will be on magic, Old World romanticism and spooky folklore. The old “Tamara” set in the Hollywood American Legion building provides an appropriate setting, in which revelers will go from room to room to see and hear more than 150 performers, including magicians Leo Kostka and Tony Pikaso (of the Magic Castle), storytellers and sorcerers.

Under the umbrella title of the Halloween Society, organizations taking part include the Temple of Wicca and Druidism, the Dark Shadows Fan Club and the Transylvania Dracula Society. Entertainment includes the Vampyre Ball (a 40-minute stage show in which vampires waltz to Strauss), performances by the Troubadour Theater Group, and Tarot card readers. Revelers can also browse the merchants row and purchase food and alcohol ($1-$6).

The 6-9 p.m. sessions Friday and Saturday are filling up with families, the 9 p.m.-midnight sessions with adults. Hollywood American Legion, 2035 Highland Ave., Los Angeles. Admission: $12.50 (discount for groups). Reservations: (310) 475-4436.
