Who’s Right?

What exactly would Robert Hilburn call a good show (“Look Who’s Back,” Oct. 24)? The Who’s “Quadrophenia” show sounded as good or better than the ground-breaking production quality of the original album. Every step came together flawlessly; the multimedia production moved each song through the story and built a structure that carried the audience to an emotional climax at “Love Reign O’er Me” that was breathtaking. The audience on the floor stood through the entire show and we folks up the rafters stood through large sections of the show.

Maybe something metaphysical is what Hilburn would like. How about shaving 20 years off of everyone in the building? I was at the 1976 Anaheim Stadium show, when I had plenty of teen angst to spare, and I can tell you there was little, if any, difference in the power and energy of both the band and the audience at this show.
