SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Aliso Niguel scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions en route to a 48-7 victory over Laguna Beach Friday night in a Pacific Coast League game.

On Aliso Niguel’s second play from scrimmage, quarterback Wes Thomas found Andrew Mashburn open for a 45-yard pass to Laguna Beach’s eight-yard line. Two plays later, Thomas sneaked in from a yard out and the seventh-ranked Wolverines (7-0, 2-0) took a 7-0 lead.

A two-yard touchdown run by Trent Perley and a 35-yard touchdown pass from Thomas to Nick Singleton put the Wolverines up, 20-0, early in the second quarter.

The Artists (0-6-1, 0-2) held Aliso Niguel scoreless for the rest of the first half.

Perley, who also scored on an eight-yard run, finished with 89 yards. He was the Wolverines’ primary rusher because Scott Nemeth was sidelined with the flu. Ryan Devine also rushed for two second-half touchdowns for Aliso Niguel.

The Wolverines held the Artists to five yards in the first quarter and Laguna Beach didn’t get a first down until midway through the second quarter. But Laguna Beach made the game more interesting when Eric Hooper went 34 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 20-7 at halftime.
