D.A. Election

I was surprised by your Oct. 20 editorial endorsing John F. Lynch for Los Angeles County district attorney. You stated that Gil Garcetti sees his job as district attorney “in part as preventing crime and promoting initiatives against domestic violence and gang activity,” and that Lynch will focus on “tough and fair-minded prosecution,” and that somehow you found Lynch’s view of the job more compelling.

I, for one, will be voting for Garcetti, because we need more people in office who are as interested in preventing crimes as they are in prosecuting them.

* Your endorsement of Lynch is a thoughtful and good one. We need a district attorney who is interested in doing the job, and not in making headlines or gaining publicity for himself. Moreover, it is refreshing that a candidate who is not spending astronomical sums of money can actually run and even win a countywide election.

Lynch is doing well despite running a shoestring campaign that accepts no donations over $5,000. This speaks highly of his honesty and integrity as well as his judgment.
