Tele-Communications Inc. of Ventura County, Thousand Oaks’ largest cable television provider, will broadcast a live election night special Nov. 5 with politicians, journalists and community leaders discussing the issues and latest results.

Along with public-access producer Mario Diaz, TCI will put on the election special starting at 8 p.m. on Channel 8. The broadcast, expected to be about three hours long, will cover the Thousand Oaks City Council, Conejo Valley Unified School District and Conejo Recreation and Park District races along with local state and congressional campaigns.

Editors and reporters from local newspapers will discuss the election results, which will be obtained directly from a feed at the Ventura County Government Center.

Between periodic updates, the special will also feature numerous discussions on local issues and community organizations.

The first hour will feature interviews and analysis from former school, city and park district elected leaders. The second will include public information briefings from local government representatives such as police and parks officials. The third will feature discussion of Thousand Oaks service organizations and the programs they provide.

“We knew we wouldn’t see this on Channel 4 or 7,” Diaz said. “So we thought this would be an important service for the community. We want to put this election in perspective.”

As a service to voters, TCI will also dedicate the majority of air time on Channel 8 to broadcasts of recent local city council, school board and congressional forums from today until Monday.

The cable company will broadcast four separate forums on the council race alone, including events sponsored by the Thousand Oaks Chamber of Commerce and St. Paschal Baylon Church.

Most regular public access programming has been pushed back.
