County to Purchase Land for Fire Station

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors took a significant step toward building a new fire station in Agoura Hills on Tuesday with a vote to purchase land for the planned station.

The site is on vacant hillside land in the 29500 block of Canwood Street.

Tuesday’s board action exercised the county’s option to purchase the 3.26-acre site for $430,000--a move that obligates the county to purchase the property.

The board also declared that building the fire station will not have a significant impact on the environment, an action that makes a thorough environmental review unnecessary.

Construction of the station will be funded by developer fees from the county’s Consolidated Fire Protection District, as well as money from the city of Agoura Hills.

The station will consist of a single-story 10,000-square-foot building and a 1,200-square-foot utility structure. The complex will include offices, a kitchen, a day room, an equipment room, a restroom with showers and a locker room and dormitory. Maximum occupancy will be 12 people.

Construction will probably begin within the next several months, officials said.
