A West Hills man faces sentencing in February after pleading guilty to tax evasion, U.S. Atty. Nora M. Manella announced.

George Albert Simmons, 54, entered his plea Monday to one count of tax evasion stemming from his tenure as vice president of finance for Anthony Manufacturing, a San Fernando glass company.

Simmons faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $100,000 fine, according to Kendra McNally, an assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case.

Simmons admitted embezzling more than $450,000 from Anthony Manufacturing between 1987 and 1994, evading $140,000 in taxes in the process, McNally said.

Simmons also admitted using some of the money to pay mortgages on three residential properties, pay off credit cards and fund gambling and ski trips, McNally said.

The charges resulted from an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service.

Simmons is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Ronald S. Lew on Feb. 3.
