Plan to Buy Mobile Home Park Advances

Residents of the Top o’Topanga Mobilehome Estates in Topanga received a boost Tuesday to their campaign to buy their trailer park when the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors agreed to submit the residents’ application documents to the state.

The homeowners’ association, known as Resident Owned and Run Inc., is attempting to obtain low-interest loans from the state’s Mobilehome Park Resident Ownership Program to buy the trailer park at 3360 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd.

The state provides loans to allow residents to purchase their parks to reduce their housing costs.

And while the funds will not pass through the county government, the state requires counties to approve applications and assist in the application process.

The application, written on behalf of 29 low-income residents, must be received by the state Department of Housing and Community Development by Friday, officials said.
