Chapman Voluntarily Forfeits Victories

Chapman will voluntarily forfeit this season’s five football victories to date, in light of the discovery of two players’ ineligibility, said university President James L. Doti.

Montana Coach Mick Dennehy is recovering from emergency surgery for a colon infection Monday night and will miss this Saturday’s Big Sky Conference game at Cal State Northridge. Dennehy, 46, is in his first year as head coach. Montana, 7-0 this season, is ranked second in NCAA Division I-AA.

Penn State Coach Joe Paterno said quarterback Wally Richardson, who was benched in last Saturday’s victory over Indiana, will start Saturday against Northwestern, which will get Darnell Autry back at tailback. . . . Georgia Southern suspended 18 players for staying out past curfew last weekend, and all will sit out the Eagles’ homecoming game Saturday against East Tennessee. . . . Two unnamed Oregon State players are being investigated in the alleged sexual assault of a female student and have been suspended from the team pending the results of the investigation.
