Westlake Promenade Arrived Just in Time

Share

Your article about the Promenade at Westlake was a welcome breath of fresh air. As an original homeowner in Westlake Village’s First Neighborhood and resident there for almost 30 years, plus many years of membership in the First Neighborhood Architectural Committee and over 20 years in the civil engineering profession, I feel that I have the background to say, “It’s about time!”

Builders there have been stifled by rules that prevented such exciting planning plus restrictive decisions by city committees. I never thought the day would come that an imaginative facility like Caruso’s Promenade at Westlake would be permitted in this area. “It’s about time!”

The attractive use of colors and materials to accomplish “ . . . the look of a place that was built over time . . . “ has put a smile on my face. How I recall the distressing dictatorial posturing by the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission just a few years ago when Nesen Infiniti was refused approval for its attractive building.

Just the other day I read in your paper the article about the endless committee discussions regarding the copper curtain on the exterior of the Thousand Oaks Civic Center. The only other letter I have ever sent to the editor was to recommend the insertion of the Thousand Oaks symbol, the beautiful outline of a stately oak tree, rather than the present drab copper strips.

Thank you Mr. Caruso and whoever within the city management has finally had the foresight and courage to accomplish this. “It’s about time!”
