Boston College Probes Alleged Gambling

Boston College officials were mum while meeting with investigators most of the day about possible illegal gambling activity involving members of the school’s football team. WHDH-TV in Boston, however, reported that “the school was looking into five players that gambled on games and may have bet on BC to lose.”. . . . The Big East made a small move in The Associated Press’ Top 25 college football poll, with Syracuse and Virginia Tech moving back into the rankings and West Virginia falling out. Florida remained No. 1 for the seventh straight week, and the Top 10 was unchanged in balloting by the 67 sports writers and broadcasters. The Orangemen (5-2), off a 30-7 victory over West Virginia, returned to the rankings at No. 24, while the Hokies are back in at No. 25 after a 47-16 win over Southwestern Louisiana. West Virginia (7-2) dropped out after being ranked 18th.
