School Board OKs Details of Plan to Seek Superintendent

Share

The Los Angeles Board of Education on Monday approved details of a plan to search nationwide for a new superintendent and agreed to let its search committee winnow the candidates down to from three to five finalists.

For months, the board has been considering approaches to fill the post that will be vacated when Supt. Sid Thompson steps down in June. The selection committee has vowed to have a new superintendent by mid-April.

On Monday, the board approved a $40,000 expenditure by the committee for advertising the position in national publications. It also authorized seeking an executive search firm with experience in school superintendent searches, but the committee has agreed to try to obtain foundation funding for it.
