Legal Aid Group Seeks Low-Income Trustees

Share

The Legal Aid Society of Orange County, which provides free legal assistance to the poor, is seeking low-income residents to serve on its board of directors.

The Santa Ana-based society serves as the agency of last resort for financially burdened residents who cannot afford assistance or find a lawyer to take a case free of charge. Only those with noncriminal and non-fee-generating cases are eligible for assistance.

The board members being sought must be representative of the client population and live below the poverty level in Orange County or southeast Los Angeles County, said Theresa B. Marji, assistant director of administration. Low-income residents constitute about a third of the 26-member board, she said.
