Shoppers Can Soak Up Savings at Spa Outlet

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

OK, so you made it through another summer without a spa. But how about next year? Now is probably the best time to check out the prices since, as any good bargain shopper knows, buying out of season usually leads to the best deals.

There’s a factory outlet in Canoga Park where three manufacturers of spas are represented and where the regular cost carries a healthy discount. L.A. Spas, Majestic and Charisma are all Southern California companies that make up the inventory at Hydro Spa, where close to 25 models are on display.

A four-person spa from Charisma that retails for $3,100 is marked $2,495. From Majestic is another four-person spa, 6-foot round, that regularly sells for $2,995--and sells here for $2,495. You can save $1,000 on an 8-foot spa by Chalet that holds six to seven people and retails for $4,995; reduced price is $3,995.

Unlike other spa outlets where demos and home-show models are marked down and you have to take whatever color and sizes are on the floor, at Hydro Spa there is a choice of several colors and immediate delivery.

In addition--and this is a big plus--installation is included in the price, along with steps and a cover. All this, plus there’s a service warranty of five years on the equipment and 20 years on the shell itself.

The day I checked there were also about six gazebos on the floor, ranging in price from $800 to $3,000 and reflecting a discount of 20% to 25% off original retail.

All the spa covers are made by Ideal; currently on the floor is a $325 model reduced to $224.

Hydra Spa will hold any item for 90 days with a $100 deposit, and if you change your mind, they’ll refund the whole deposit.

Hydra Spa Factory Outlet, 6559 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park. (818) 992-7727. Hours: 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Major credit cards.

Weekend Super Sale: A going-out-of-business sale is a good-news, bad-news situation. A sale is always good news, but it was sad to hear that Karen and John’s, manufacturer of children’s fine apparel, is closing. The warehouse, where overruns are always priced just above wholesale, is full of basics in newborn to 24-month sizes, and everything must go. Discounts start at about 30%. Stock will include lots of socks and moccasins. Karen and John’s Warehouse, 145 Vista Ave., No. 111, Pasadena. (818) 792-9515. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Sale goes through November.
