D.A. Files No Charges in Shooting
The district attorney’s office decided not to file charges Wednesday against a Midway City woman taken into custody on suspicion of fatally shooting a live-in boyfriend and then telling police that she had gunned down an intruder in her home.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Carolyn Kirkwood said further investigation is needed before a decision can be made on whether to file charges against Nicole Sweitzer, 28, who ran out of her Wilson Street home early Monday screaming that she had shot a burglar.
Investigators said they later learned that the slain man, 19-year-old William Hildebrand, was Sweitzer’s boyfriend and had been sharing the house with her and her 3-year-old daughter.
Investigators then arrested Sweitzer on suspicion of murder.
Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said at the time that the shooting appeared to result from a domestic dispute, but details were not disclosed.
In court Wednesday, the district attorney’s office decided against filing charges and Sweitzer was scheduled to be released from jail, said Kirkwood, who would not say why no charges were filed.
“We’re waiting for the investigation to be completed,” Kirkwood said. “That’s about all I can say at this point.”
