Suspects Sought in Strong-Arm Robbery

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects in a strong-arm robbery last month in Port Hueneme.

The crime occurred about 10 p.m. Oct. 28 in the 700 block of Glacier Avenue. A teenage boy approached a 60-year-old woman from behind and grabbed her purse, according to Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Kenneth Dobbe.

When the youth pulled on the purse strap, which was around the woman’s neck, the woman fell to the ground. She held onto the purse and was dragged along the street, Dobbe said. But the strap broke, the suspect grabbed the purse and then jumped into the passenger side of a nearby car, which sped away south on J Street, he said.

The suspect is described as a 16-year-old Latino, 5 feet 1 to 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a heavy build and short black hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants. The getaway car, possibly an older model Pontiac, was two-tone rust in color.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK. Callers may remain anonymous. If a criminal complaint is filed, the person providing the information will be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
