Parrish Sets Record in Esperanza Victory

PLACENTIA — Esperanza quarterback David Parrish threw for 355 yards and a school-record five touchdowns as the Aztecs clinched at least a tie for first place in the Sunset League with a 62-7 victory over Marina.
The second-ranked Aztecs improved to 8-1 overall, 4-0 in league. Marina fell to 1-8, 0-4.
After punting on its first possession, Esperanza scored on its next nine possessions, beginning with Jamaal Footman’s 49-yard touchdown run with 4:48 left in the first quarter.
Less than two minutes later, Parrish hooked up with Rod Jackson on a 44-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
On the third play of the second quarter, Footman caught a 29-yard pass from Parrish for a 21-0 lead.
Marina got its lone score with 7:50 left in the half when quarterback Scott Austin scored from seven yards.
Two long pass plays led to a four-yard touchdown pass from Parrish to Ryan Hill and a 28-7 lead.
With 1:09 left in the half, Parrish threw his fourth touchdown of the game, a 26-yard play to Jackson.
At the half, Parrish was 12 of 14 for 302 yards.
Footman scored his third touchdown of the night on a 34-yard run with 8:49 left in the third quarter to increase the lead to 42-7.
Three and a half minutes later, Parrish threw a 45-yard touchdown to Randy Ross.
After that, Esperanza reserves came in and Jamie Smith scored on a five-yard run with 3:18 left in the quarter to make the score 56-7.
