Homer D. Gorden; Market Owner
Homer D. Gorden of Ventura, a World War II veteran and former owner of an Oxnard market, died Thursday in a Ventura care facility. He was 80.
Gorden was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Bolivar, Mo., and had been a California resident since 1937. He is an Army veteran of World War II, having served in France and Germany.
From 1949 until 1964, Gorden owned and operated Thriftyway Market in Oxnard. He last worked for the state Employment Development Department.
Gorden is survived by his wife Pearl; son Ron Gorden of Prescott, Ariz.; stepdaughters Linda Reese of Novato and Carol Johnson of Port Orchard, Wash.; sister Berniece Berry of Ventura; brother Lyle Gorden of Ventura; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Sunday at noon at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
