Dornan Race

It is ironic that when Rep. Robert K. Dornan apparently lost his seat in the Congress to Loretta Sanchez, he claimed voter fraud (Nov. 13). Dornan has been such a terrible congressman and such a horrific role model for the youth of California that many of us believe that the only way he could have ever been elected in the first place was by voter fraud.

* “B-1 Bob” Dornan has reached a new low in his pockmarked career. Instead of being a man, he has decided to play the role of the whining child, if he loses the election. Not that I ever expected Dornan to ever do anything with dignity, but the opportunity was and is there.

I’m ashamed that Dornan tries to represent me and my family.

* Even in possible defeat, Dornan is cocky, bombastic and ungracious. It can only be fraud, he claims. It would be impossible for his constituents to choose to turn him out, he insists. That’s because this unrepentant carpetbagger does not know his constituents, has never done anything to get to know them and certainly has not represented their views.

It’s always been a case of low voter registration and poor voter turnout that has made Dornan the oxymoron of congressional representation.

His name-calling and grandstanding aside, it was his unending, paternalistic boasting on C-SPAN (and elsewhere) about how his heavily minority district adored him that got me down there with a van of like-minded Valley Democrats on a Saturday to canvass a precinct in Dornan’s district, telling voters of both parties that if they couldn’t stand him--and most said they couldn’t--then they simply had to get to the polls this time.

* Ex-con, ex-champ Mike Tyson was more gracious in defeat than Dornan. What should we tell the kids?

* How disappointing to see Dornan behaving like a sore loser in this campaign. Perhaps he is in denial that a young Latina woman could beat him in his reelection bid. Congratulations, Loretta Sanchez!
