Five masked men believed to be armed with handguns snuck into a house Wednesday night and tied up a boy and his grandmother before escaping with cash and jewelry, police said.

The home-invasion robbery occurred on La Capilla Avenue about 6:30 p.m., when the five men got into the house and bound a 14-year-old boy and his 71-year-old grandmother with duct tape, said Sgt. Dan Bean of the Fountain Valley Police Department.

The victims were also forced to lie on a bed and were covered with a blanket while the robbers ransacked and searched the residence for an hour, Bean said.

One of the men hit the woman on the back of the head with his hand, but she did not require medical attention, Bean said.

It was not known how much in cash and jewelry was taken, Bean said.
