THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Happily Ever After

The show biz event of the week was the marriage of Van Nuys’ own Debbie Rowe to Michael Jackson. . . . But Sherman Oaks counselor Lorraine Baron warns of possible difficulties ahead. The pair will face challenges from intense publicity, pregnancy and his recent divorce. “She probably isn’t feeling her very best, and he has to adjust to the idea of being a father,” Baron notes.

Winners and Losers

Leaf-blower foes were the week’s winners as well as losers, after the City Council voted to ban the devices near homes. “We won because they’re going to ban gasoline-powered leaf blowers, but we’re losers also because they’re going to penalize us if our gardener uses one of these contraptions,” said Richard Close, president of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn. . . . The fine: $1,000.

The Week Ahead

Due Tuesday: another update on the painfully slow vote count in the race for the 43rd Assembly District. . . . Democrat Scott Wildman’s slim lead has dwindled to just 81 votes over Republican John Geranios in the Glendale-Burbank seat (B1).
