Share

As many as 200 teenagers from across Camarillo are expected to attend a daylong youth summit Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.

The event will provide the young people of Camarillo an opportunity to meet and discuss issues relating to alcohol and drugs, delinquency and sexual activity, said Allyson Gold, executive director of the youth club.

The “It’s Not Just for Kids” program includes lunch and dancing with entertainment provided by a disc jockey. Organizers also hope parents and community leaders will participate in the discussions.

The event “gives us a chance to show the teens in Camarillo that we know how to create appealing, exciting programs for kids older than 12,” Gold said.

“We have an opportunity to show them and the community that we can attract teens, teach them, guide them and leave them wanting more,” she said.

The event will conclude with a live talk show, complete with a custom-built set, that will put the youths on stage to discuss various issues confronting teenagers.
