Nostalgia on Menu for Last Mayor’s Breakfast

Retiring Mayor George B. Scott on Thursday will recount highlights of his 21 years on the City Council during his final mayor’s breakfast with the public.

Scott said he plans to share stories, reflect on policy and discuss events that have shaped the city since he took office.

He is particularly proud of increased sales tax revenue, a fountain built with private funding at City Hall and a “council that works together as a team,” he said.

Among the longest-serving elected officials in Orange County, Scott, 64, first took office in 1969 and served until 1978.

He was reelected in 1984 and has served ever since.

“After 21 years, I am getting tired,” he said. “It’s time for the new blood to come in.”

Scott’s term officially ends Dec. 3, when he is to pass the mayor’s gavel on to Councilman James D. Petrikin.

The farewell breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. in the Saltzer Conference Room at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, 17100 Euclid Ave. Cost is $1.50.
