King update--This will be the first of two games against last season’s Eastern Conference champions. The Panthers hold a 1-2-1 overall lead in the series. The Kings are 0-3-1 in the second night of back-to-back games this season. Goalie Stephane Fiset will start for the first time since giving up six goals in a 7-4 loss to the Mighty Ducks on Nov. 8.

Panther update--The Panthers have the best record in the NHL, but they are 0-1-1 in their last two home games, including a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday. The power play is two for 26 in the last six home games, and failed four times Monday. Right winger Scott Mellanby, who scored his first short-handed goal in his 11-year career on Monday, leads the team in points (17) and goals (eight). Goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck lost against the Capitals but is still 8-2-3 for the season.
