Tyrone Williams of the Green Bay Packers was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail for shooting at an occupied car in 1994 while he was at Nebraska. The 23-year-old rookie cornerback, showing no emotion in the Lincoln, Neb., courtroom, was ordered to report to jail Dec. 3.

Williams also must serve three years of supervised probation and perform 400 hours of unpaid community service in the next 36 months.

In unrelated moves, the Packers claimed veteran wide receiver Andre Rison on waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars and waived receiver Anthony Morgan, who was cut at the end of training camp but re-signed Oct. 28.

Rison was released by the Jaguars for what Coach Tom Coughlin described as lack of performance. He was third on the Jaguars with 34 receptions for 458 yards.

The Philadelphia Eagles placed wide receiver Mark Ingram on injured reserve and promoted rookie linebacker Whit Marshall from the practice squad to the active roster. Ingram tore cartilage in his left knee during practice Nov. 13. Marshall was a fifth-round draft choice from Georgia.

New York Giant starting linebacker Corey Miller likely will not play against the Cowboys because of a severely sprained left ankle, the team said.

Bill Walsh’s job title may remain vague, but his role with the 49ers is becoming clearer. Two weeks ago, with the offense struggling and players grumbling, Walsh convened a meeting of offensive players. And during last Sunday’s 38-20 victory over Baltimore, Walsh donned a headset for the first time this season and listened in an adjacent booth as offensive coordinator Marc Trestman called the plays from the press box. “I doubt that I’ll do that every week,” Walsh said. “It does help me, because I know what the next play is and it gives me a better idea of what to look for in its execution.”
