Mike Riley a Candidate for Two Jobs

Mike Riley, USC’s offensive coordinator the last four seasons, is a leading candidate for two head coaching jobs.

Riley, who coached the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers to two Grey Cup championships, has been contacted about that same job. He is also applying for the head coaching vacancy at Fresno State.

Lynn Bishop, president of the Blue Bombers, confirmed he wants to interview Riley after USC’s season.

“We’ve talked, but there have been no real discussions about the job,” Bishop said. “But Mike is certainly a guy we’d be interested in. He coached here before for us, and had great success.”

Riley was Winnipeg’s head coach from 1987 to 1990 and won the Grey Cup in 1988 and 1990.

“Some people from Winnipeg called me, but it’s premature to say that I’m going back,” Riley said.

Riley’s name surfaced for the Fresno State job when Jim Sweeney resigned, and Riley also confirmed he has filled out a pre-interview form for Fresno State.

Riley, 43, was one of John Robinson’s first hires in 1993, when he returned to USC for a second term.
