Tim Keenan and Anna Piercy, newly elected to the City Council, will be sworn into office at the council’s 7 p.m. Monday meeting. City Clerk Lillian Haina said certification of the Nov. 5 election will have been completed by then.

The five-member council will then select a mayor and mayor pro tem for the coming year. Mayor Walter K. Bowman, who has two years remaining on his four-year term, will step down as presiding officer.

The new council members will succeed Cecilia L. Age and Gail H. Kerry, both barred by term limits from seeking reelection.

Keenan has said one of his first goals after taking office will be to seek the repeal of the city’s newly passed daytime curfew for youth. Two incumbents, Councilman Tom Carroll and Councilwoman Mary Ann Jones, have said they will join Keenan in seeking repeal of the law.

The ordinance won final approval Nov. 12 and is set to take effect Dec. 13.

The council’s Monday meeting also will include discussion of a request by ERA Realty for a parapet sign for its new location in a shopping center at Walker and Ball streets.

City staff has recommended rejecting the request, saying that the sign would be inconsistent with the architecture of the shopping center.
