Share

Ventura County Superior Court and Corrections Services Agency officials are looking for people of different ages, races, genders and social classes to serve on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission.

The commission is made up of nine to 15 people who represent a cross-section of county residents. At least two of the members must be between the ages of 14 and 18.

The commission serves as a citizens watchdog group that keeps an eye on the operations of the juvenile court, the Corrections Services Agency and law enforcement.

Specifically, commission members must probe the administration of juvenile court laws, annually tour and inspect all county institutions used to confine minors, and report all findings to the juvenile court and California Youth Authority.

The commission also holds annual hearings to get public input on strengths and weaknesses of existing juvenile justice programs. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the Corrections Services Agency in Ventura.

If interested, send a letter to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission, Corrections Services Agency, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura 93009. Applications should include name, address, telephone number, background and experience, a statement of interest and other involvement in youth-related issues.
