As Vote Counting Nears End, School Bond Measure Is Declared a Loser

The Los Angeles Unified School District’s repair and construction bond ballot measure has officially failed, based on Thursday’s vote count update.

Proposition BB, which would have provided $2.4 billion to the district, had 587,464 “yes” votes, representing 65.5% of the ballots cast within district boundaries this month. County Registrar/Recorder Conny McCormack said “there’s just no way” the 2,000 ballots left for counting today would bring the measure to the needed two-thirds support level.

District officials are prepared to try again to get a bond measure passed in April, a proposal that will be brought to the school board for consideration Monday afternoon.
